Summer Road Trip: Hotels Used To Be Built With Character
I get such a thrill out of finding unusual places to stay. Most of the time it's a quirky b&b or hidden away apartment rental, but occasionally it also turns out to be in a conventional hotel. Check out the "loft suite" we stayed in last week at the Salt Lake City Airport Radisson...
This hotel was built in 1989 and I have to imagine a staircase like that would never meet code in a hotel being built today. To prove it, the first thing B & P did was climb up the outside of the banister. All uniqueness aside, I did have hesitations about the kids leaving the room while I was slumbering in the bed up above. Sure enough, I'd barely laid down my head the first night when I heard P turning the deadbolt and peeking his head outside. He spent the rest of the night in bed with me and somehow I ended up the second night on the pull-out sofa to keep him from trying to escape again.

What a cool room! We stayed in a hotel last week and it was the typical square room with 2 beds. This one is much for fun! True!

ReplyDeleteIt's funny how we view things today compared to years ago in terms of safety. We went on a little train on Maui last year and I giggled the whole time at how horrifyingly unsafe it was!

ReplyDeleteInteresting review, I've stayed at lots of hotels over the years while traveling for work, and sometimes the cheapest ones had the most character ever.
ReplyDeleteI love that loft bedroom... for me, I wouldn't care if it was up to code or not. I can see where it wouldn't be good with kids.... but think time without kids!!
ReplyDeleteHmmm....once when I was a teen and on a round trip around the country with a bunch of my family, we stayed in this little cabin and it was a lot of fun. Much better than staying in a motor home with 10 other people anyway! :)

ReplyDeleteThat's a really cool room! We haven't been on vacation with the girls yet...I'ma little nervous about it! However, my oldest has never tried to go outside without permission...she is a rules kind of girl :)
ReplyDeleteWe have stayed in the cabin hotel rooms on the water at Cedar Point and they have an upstairs loft for the kids to sleep in if they want. Those were neat.
ReplyDeleteWe've stayed in a suite at Great Lodge too, that had a little room for the kids w/a bed on one side and bunk on the other. And then the big bed in a separate room. That was nice.
There are some amazing places out there to stay in - I haven't really stayed anywhere really quirky I do remember a quaint little cottage as a child where I *had* to sleep in the top bunk even though I couldn't sit up in it as it was so near the celling!

ReplyDeleteI had to read the article carefully because despite the title, I was sure that was a picture of someone's home! Perhaps a little challenging with young kids, but what a great departure from the standard hotel room.
ReplyDeleteI've actually never stayed in anyplace unique like this. Every place I've ever stayed in actually just looked like a regular sterile hotel. Even our room at Disney World wasn't anything really special besides the Mickey stuff in our room. It does look like someone's house turned into a hotel. :)

ReplyDeleteWow that is a really neat room you stayed in. I would like to stay in something different than the average room. Luckily my son is older so I don't have to worry about the door situation, I don't know that I would have slept at all if I had to worry about him escaping.

ReplyDeleteSuites are nice-we don't usually spend the money for them, but I love the separation when we do.
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky to have a rules girl. P, my 2nd, is confident he just knows all about this world and goes off without looking back. It's definitely a blessing and a curse!

ReplyDeleteWe never been to any hotel with a unique set up. That one really looks like a typical home. The stairs are not safe for little kids.
